On Wednesday, 15th February 2006 at the BCS Centre in London, members of BCS PROMS-G and their guests,
were treated to a presentation by Tim Curry, the head of Capgemini's Programme Management Group
who described the role of collaboration in delivering successful programmes.
Capgemini's head of programme management, Tim Curry, explained how collaboration is a vital
ingredient for the success of complex IT-driven change programmes. Fresh from creating London’s
new "999" system, Tim tested his formula with the seasoned pros at the PROMS-G meeting and
reached consensus that achieving good results relies heavily on both art and science - with a
chunk of good leadership thrown in to pull it all together.
Putting aside all the methodology and consultant speak, what really counts is the human element – working
collaboratively towards a shared goal with clients, suppliers, contractors, and, of course,
all members of the programme team. Tim picked out a dozen aspects where the human angle
really cuts in – like sharing a common vision, an achievable plan, the right resources,
sponsorship, stakeholder management and effective decision making. Above all, apply your
common sense and be honest with yourself – you too can drive through transformational
change, but only through the power of the people you work with.
