PROMS-G Privacy Policy

At PROMS-G we are committed to protecting your privacy. We will use the details you send us (new or updated) only to register you for membership of PROMS-G and the attendant benefits, and for informing you about upcoming events (chargeable and non-chargeable) organised by PROMS-G and similar organisations, e.g. APM, ProgM. The details of our privacy policy are as follows:

Controller of personal information

Any personal information provided to BCS PROMS-G is controlled by The British Computer Society of 1 Sanford Street, Swindon, SN1 1HJ, UK.

How do we use the information we collect?

We need to know your name, address, organisation and e-mail address. This allows us to include you in hard-copy and email circulars concerning the group and its activities, and those of related organisations. We also ask for your telephone number which enables us to contact you urgently if you are registered for an event and a problem arises with the event or the booking. We also keep statistics on the proportions of our members who are BCS and/or APM members in order to influence our policies on the types of event we mount.

How does PROMS-G protect member information?

The data collected is maintained in a password-protected database, to which only the Membership Secretary has access. Subsets of data are made available to other committee members for specific purposes only (eg mailshots), in hard copy form only, and are destroyed after use.

Policy on 'cookies'?

Cookies are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. We do not currently make use of cookies.

Will PROMS-G disclose the information it collects to other parties?

PROMS-G does not sell, trade or rent your personal information to others, with the following exception:

  • We will supply your name and address details to Project Manager Today Magazine for the purpose of securing a free monthly subscription to PMT. They in turn will use that data for purposes which are in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

We may choose to do so in the future with trustworthy third parties, but we will announce any such change via this web page and by email to all members at least one month beforehand, to give members the opportunity to opt out from such arrangements.

Your consent

By sending us your details, you consent to the collection and use of this information by PROMS-G. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we disclose it.

You may at any time opt out from receiving emails from us by amending your details on our Change Membership Details page.

Tell us what you think!

PROMS-G welcomes your questions and comments about privacy. Please send e-mails to promsg.chair@bcs.org.uk.
